Who's Behind the
Wheel? |
As
we get older, our driving reflexes may change. If this happens,
we must adjust our driving habits to accommodate these changes.
Maybe your parents fit this category. The following suggestions
may be helpful:
Do
most of your driving during daylight hours.
Use
less traveled streets but not back roads."
Allow
additional time when bringing your car to a stop.
Allow
extra space between your car and the one in front of you to prevent
a rear-end collision.
Keep
your car in good mechanical condition.
Always
keep an adequate amount of gas in your tank.
Have
your tires checked (and rotated) periodically.
Replace
your windshield wiper blades a couple of times a year or as needed.
Always
practice good driving habits such as using directional signals,
turning from the correct lane, and stopping at signal lights and
stop signs.
Observe
the speed limit. Driving too fast or too slow may be hazardous.
Run
several errands at a time.
Be
especially watchful at intersections.
If
driving makes you nervous, consider using some form of public transportation
or the assistance of family or friends. Always drive defensively.
