Cultural changes in our society have brought
about changes in our worship at church. Many congregations are singing
fewer hymns, and choruses are taking the spotlight.
Many senior adults have expressed how they miss
singing hymns. Here is something you might consider: organize a
Sing-Along and sing your favorite hymns.
 |
Select a host and hostess who
have a piano or someone who plays a guitar. |
 |
Set a date to begin your Sing-Along. |
 |
Decide whether to meet once
a month or more often. |
 |
Talk about the Sing-Along with
your friends. |
 |
Invite enough people to fill
the living room or family room comfortably without crowding
it. |
 |
If you have more people interested
than one home can accommodate, select a second or third home. |
 |
Choose a song leader or let
the person who selects a song lead it. |
 |
Encourage those who play other
instruments to join the Sing-Along. |
 |
Develop duets, trios, or quartets
for enjoyment and worship. |
 |
If you have several home groups,
join together once a quarter for a joint Sing-Along at the church. |
 |
Let your special groups sing
with everyone joining in on the chorus. |
 |
Do not be afraid to invite non-Christians
who enjoy gospel music. |
 |
It is not necessary to serve
refreshments; however, you may want to make water available. |
 |
If you do not have available
musicians, sing with cassette tapes or CDs. |
