How To Pray for Missionaries

Missionaries need training, money, and qualifying experience. More than this, however, they need your prayers. This is not a cliché; it is a reality.

Prayer is the most powerful resource for the Christian to overcome Satan's interference. Consider the following suggestions for praying for missionaries, both home and foreign:

Call the missionaries' names before the Lord in prayer.

Be specific with your requests such as for physical protection, power to witness, freedom from illness, guidance, strength for their daily tasks, and the requests they have listed in their newsletters.

Enlist the prayers of others when you know of specific needs among missionary families.

Pray for the missionaries' families.

Pray for the people of the country where the missionaries serve or the city where they are ministering. Ask God to open the hearts of the nationals to respond to the gospel.

Pray for the national church leaders as well.

Be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit to pray. You may not know the specific need, but God does. Your prayers may make the difference in life and death.

Write a letter of encouragement to your missionaries and assure them you are praying for them.

Consider giving financial support to your missionaries.

You can pray in your hometown, and God can perform a miracle on the other side of the world. The Holy Spirit is not limited by visas, passports, or geographical borders.
