The Granny Brigade returned to South Africa in May 2007. At the JFK airport for my flight to South Africa, I remembered the words God whispered in my ear just a few short years before: “A vision without action is just a dream!” In South Africa we traveled to schools in the city of Mokopane to share our testimonies, dramas, and the plan of salvation. As each child received the Book of Hope, a Hope Bracelet was placed on them by grandmothers who lovingly looked into their eyes and told them, “Jesus loves you.” To personally give God’s powerful Word to children is pure joy!
Prince, the high school soccer coach, followed me to every classroom as I distributed the Book of Hope. When it was time for us to leave, he asked if we would come back to his school. I told him we could not because we needed to reach many more students with God’s Word but that I would see him in Heaven. He said, “I hope so.” That was my opening to tell him that the Bible says,
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13 KJV). I told him he must read the book and do exactly what it says. He promised me he would. I told him he must read the book and do exactly what it says. He promised me he would.
At Lighthouse Children’s Shelter, the grannies love and rock many babies. Matthew 24:14 says, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come” (NIV). We grannies cannot provide for all their needs, but we can all do something!
Age is not a factor; Grandma Mac (Miriam) will be 81 in November!
