Caregiving
At some point in life, many people
will become caregivers. A spouse or even a parent may require tender,
loving care in meeting physical needs.
As a caregiver, it is important
to take good care of yourself while assuming your responsibilities
to the one who is ill.
Get an adequate amount of sleep. Sleep during
the day when the one you are caring for is napping.
Eat a balanced diet and take your vitamins.
If possible, get away for a little while
each day. Ask a friend to sit with your loved one for an hour
or so. You need a break.
Keep a sense of humor! Look for ways to
lessen your responsibility such as a food service provider,
a cleaning service or day care for senior adults, etc.
Sort medications by the week rather than
daily.
Do not hesitate to ask for or accept help
when it is offered.
Pray for yourself as well as for the one
for whom you are caring.
Pray for other caregivers. Encourage each
other.
Regardless of the physical condition of
the one for whom you are caring, have a short devotional and
prayer together each day.
