Shopping for Long-Term Care Insurance

If you decide you need long-term care insurance, consider the following:

Check with several companies and agents before buying.

Take your time and compare coverage.

Make sure you understand the policy.

Do not be misled by advertising.

Do not be misled by agents who say your medical history is not important.

Do not buy multiple policies.

Check on the financial stability of the company you are considering before purchasing the policy.

Buy from a reputable, established company.

Never pay the agent in cash.

Consider having the premiums automatically deducted from your bank account.

Be sure to get the name, address, and telephone number of the agent and the company.

Contact the company or agent if you do not receive the policy within 60 days.

Review the policy within the first 30 days to determine if it is right for you. If not, send the policy back with an explanation.
